Hem & Harvest emerged from a heartfelt family passion, born out of a deep love for the vibrant beauty of San Diego’s stunning coastlines. During a routine family visit to one of our favorite beaches, we encountered the troubling reality of plastic waste washed ashore, significantly endangering the native sea lions. The Ocean Clean Up Foundation’s research indicates that plastic pollution severely threatens marine life. It entangles creatures and breaks them down into microplastics that enter the food chain. An estimated 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic, weighing about 269,000 tons, are floating in the ocean. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, located between Hawaii and California, contains around 1.8 trillion pieces and is about twice the size of Texas. Over 8 million tons of plastic enter the oceans from land-based sources yearly, significantly harming marine ecosystems.
Witnessing the profound environmental impacts firsthand ignited our passion for creating an alternative. In 2022, we birthed the idea of Hem & Harvest, a superior reusable bag. We take pride in crafting sturdy, eco-friendly grocery bags emblematic of a movement toward sustainability. By choosing reusable over disposable, we aspire to inspire small actions that unite to reduce the plastic waste harming our oceans.
When you choose Hem & Harvest, you’re not just buying a bag—you’re joining a community committed to sustainable change. Together, we’re making an impact, one bag at a time, protecting sea life, preserving natural habitats, and reducing plastic waste. Thank you for supporting our vision for a cleaner, more sustainable future!
